American F-86 Sabre
This
is one of those airplanes that just looks EXACTLY like it should. I mean
- mention jet fighter, and you should picture the F-86.
This
kit is the Heller F-86E kit, a credible example of the breed. If I get busy,
you'll see many more examples of the Sabre. |
"The
Huff" decals are probably Super Scale. The yellow bands are so you
shoot at the MiGs, not the Sabres.
| |
Originally,
the F-86 was designed with straight wings and would have looked very much
like this FJ-1 Fury. |
| |
The F-86D
was known as the "Dog Sabre" - and not just because the letter
designation was "D". It was heavy and underpowered, but did
feature an afterburner.
This is
the Airfix kit, another worthy effort.

| |
Armed
with Mighty Mouse missiles and the Hughes Fire Control System, the F-86D
was heading towards the automated, all missile air defense system. |
| |
The
ultimate expression of the F-86 was the FJ-4 Fury, which looks like a Sabre
and a Super Sabre had a mid-air collision. What appears at first glance
to be an early F-100 wing is actually much smaller. |

F-86A
Sabre by Matchbox done in flight mode. When doing a flying aircraft, always
be sure to include the pilot! |
