The XP-69
was the Republic follow-on to the P-47. The twin engines were mounted
aft of the pilot, as in the P-63.It was massive by WWII standards. I'm using a 1/48th scale Mustang
and a 1/48th scale Thunderbolt as parts for this 1/72nd scale project.
The
rough wing for the P-69, modified from a 1/48th P-47 wing.
The 1/48th
scale Mustang fuselage next to the 1/72nd scale drawing of the P-69.
Though it
looks like a single engine plane, the P-69 is a twin engine aircraft with
both engines buried in the fuselage.
The
P-69 fuselage starts to take shape from the pieces of the P-51. The tail
is modified from a 1/48th Thunderbolt. The rough fuselage compared to
the original P-51 and the drawing.
